Simple steps to smooth skin

Simple steps to smooth skin
We all want smooth and clear skin, so we devote some time each day for cleansing, moisturizing and toning. However, exfoliation, one of the most vital steps to smooth skin is forgotten. Exfoliation helps to
  • Get rid of dead skin cells

  • Makes skin smoother

  • Deep cleanses the skin by opening the pores

  • Helps get rid of blackheads and white heads (a major cause of unsmooth skin)

Scrub for smooth skin
Exfoliating scrubs should be used as per your skin type. Brazilian nut scrubs for dry skin, apricots for normal and tea tree scrubs for oily skin are suggested. Make sure you scrub the skin at least two-three times a week for durations of about five-seven minutes to get the desired results. You can also find face washes with exfoliating ingredients for daily use.
After the exfoliation process is complete, it is vital to use a skin toner. Exfoliating ingredients open pores for deep cleansing. A toner helps to close these pores again and adds a non-greasy glow to the face. Open pores will lead to accumulation of dirt and pollutants. You can also rub your face with an ice-cube or wash it with cold water to close the pores.
Clarisonic pro for smooth skin
A handy tool here is the Clarisonic pro suggested by dermatologists which is gentle enough for daily use. It is available only through skin care professionals. The Clarisonic pro brush helps in makeup removal and makes the skin smoother and softer. Some of it’s other benefits are-
  • It reduces oily areas, dry skin patches and blemishes

  • Reduces the appearance of visible pores, fine lines and wrinkles

Makeup tip for older women- skip the powder

light reflecting foundation [stock and product images]
Aging doesn’t mean you have to give up looking good. Women like Diane Lane, Michelle Pfeiffer, Vanessa Williams and Helen Mirren prove that the over-40s set looks good – if not better – than their younger counterparts. But aging with grace takes a little TLC –and a bit of carefully applied makeup magic as well. Badly applied makeup can make you look ten years older, not ten years younger, so take this tip when putting on makeup:

Avoid powders. Dewy, bright skin is a mark of youth. But as we age, our skin becomes drier and wrinkles start to form. Applying excess press powders will dry out the face and settle into fine lines and wrinkles for a pasty, unflattering look. For the same reason, avoid age-inappropriate glittery or frosty eye shadows.
In addition, due to the drop in estrogen level associated with aging, older women may find hair growing in places where it had not previously, such as on the face – using a facial powder would only highlight these little hairs. So it’s best to stay clear of powders on the face, aside from appropriately-colored eye shadows.
The same way your hair changes color as you age, so can your skin change pigment over the years as well, losing color with the years or becoming less even in tone. A light reflecting foundation that’s moisture-dense can reflect light and help renew the luminous, even look of youthful skin.
Don’t forget to prep your skin with a good moisturizer, too. In fact, if your skin is fairly good, you can even skip the foundation and opt instead for a tinted moisturizer – or try mixing a bit of moisturizer with your foundation

Makeup Bag Essentials

Makeup Bag Essentials

I don’t tend to discuss makeup essentials because I’m a product junky, so by nature, I’m not about downsizing to the essentials! The question, however, comes up all the time when people step into my apartment for the first time, which is not unlike a Sephora aisle (I’m talking over 200 nail polishes, dozens of glosses and even more lipsticks, and that’s just the beginning…). Also, given that my boyfriend has temporarily relocated to San Francisco, I’m no stranger to traveling, which requires that I not only whittle my beauty finds down, but also make sure they’re TSA size-approved! So what are my must haves? Let’s start with skincare
.
I’m all about prevention, and the base to any beauty maintenance regime should always be skincare focused. If I could live with only one product it would be the Clarisonic. I’ve been using it daily for about three years, and it has COMPLETELY changed my skin. You will feel and see the difference after a single use — seriously. It softens skin, minimizes the appearances of pores, helps remove makeup and other impurities (I still follow up the Clarisonic with a wipe), and prevents breakouts. Or, if you’re currently mid-breakout, it help clear up imperfections faster. It’s expensive, but trust me when I say that it’s worth saving up for. If you absolutely cannot bear to spend $200 on it, then try Olay Pro X. I haven’t tried it myself, but it’s the closest thing to the Clarisonic on the market and less expensive.
With that in mind, it goes without saying that cleaning your skin daily is a must, so always pack a cleanser. (Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish is a great one that works well with the Clarisonic brush). Next on the list is a moisturizer, and if you’re opting for one without SPF, then you’ll need a daily SPF cream or gel as well. The last skin-related must-have is an eye treatment. I’m a fan of Sephora’s new Instant Depuffing Roll-On Gel because it’s quick and easy, and the roll-on mechanism is soothing. It’s not a must for everyone, but I consider an anti-aging cream a personal essential. (I usually go for an SPF moisturizer by day and an anti-aging cream by night.)
As for makeup going back to the point of maintenance, some of the most over-looked products are primers — that includes nail polish primer, face primer, eye primer, lash primer (and I could go on, but since this is a story about essentials…). Primers help protect your skin, and they make subsequent makeup application a lot easier. (For example, when applied over primer, foundation will go on more smoothly and with less streaks. You’ll also notice that, if you opt for a primer like this one from Hourglass, your skin will be more hydrated.)
Once the face is properly primed, my personal makeup essentials are the following: liquid foundation, powder foundation to set the liquid, blush, all-over highlighting powder, eye shadow, black liner, mascara and a gloss.
Lastly, don’t forget perfume! I realize it’s not an essential for everyone, but I can’t imagine leaving my apartment without wearing Chanel Allure, Hermes Ambre Narguile or Tom Ford White Suede.

My Hair-Styling Necessities

Ever since I got my haircut, I’ve been obsessed with finding the perfect products to keep my hair healthy, manageable and easy to style. The Ojon hair treatment has been amazing at giving my hair the health and shine that I (and a lot of women) crave. I use it once a week to maintain shiny, pretty hair.
Whenever people ask me how I get volume in my hair, I direct them to my secret weapon, dry shampoo. From drugstore to premium brands, they all work great, but for styling purposes, I prefer the spray-in over the powder. Spray the dry powder in at the roots and tease lightly with a rat-tooth comb. There you go! Instant volume.
To give my stick-straight hair some curl and texture, I absolutely love the clipless curling ironI’ve always used a regular clipped curling iron to curl my hair, but ever since I discovered the easy way to create waves, the clipless curling iron has been my go to. My trick to get pretty waves rather than big curls is to hold the wand downward, wrap the hair, and hold it for 10 seconds. The gloves may seem silly, but they are necessary, as I’ve burned myself a few times when I thought I could do it without them!
And the last thing that I love, an absolute essential, is this Philip B. Maui Wowie Beach Mist, which works so well in maintaining your style while still keeping your hair soft. Just spray through your hair and scrunch for that “messy on purpose” kind of hair.
I’m still much better at styling long hair. I’m only just learning how to style my shorter, shoulder-length hair, but those products have worked well for both lengths. And if you need help with curling your hair, then check out my tutorials on curling your hair with a flat iron or how to get glam curls.

Fall nail polish trends

Fall nail polish trends
Your nail colors say a lot about your fashion styles and preferences. The 2010 fall collection combines voguish shades that are applied impeccably. You have to choose the right shade for your hands based on skin color and the shape of your nails. Of course, you can always adapt these shades in an innovative way to match the latest trends.

If you want to enhance your nail varnish collection, start off by storing them right. A nail polish rack is the preferred choice of both the style-conscious and celebrities. They are a boon for up-to-the-minute manicures, especially at the 11th hour. It also helps you keep a tab of what needs to be disposed. The red shade Julia Robert wore in ‘Pretty Woman’ may be similar to what Amanda Seyfried wore in ‘Letters to Juliet’. But nail colors do have a shelf life.
The top five must-have nail colors for this fall are-
Purple nail polish
1. Purples: Both Purple Rain or Purple Reign leads the pack in fall nail colors this season. Check out the true-purples from Chanel and YSL
2. Metallic Hues: Mac metallic nail polish and Dior rock the season with glittering greys. An eye-catching shade, that creates the oomph factor with boring blacks and whites.
3. Mattes and neutrals: The matte and neutral colors are a contrast to the crisp fall season. The buttery softness and smoothness of the shades leads the way to seasonal transition.
4. Gem hues: Striking turquoise, sapphire and emerald shades create classy, jewel-tone shades for evening wear.
Red nail polish
5. Red nail polishes: The lovely reds from Esssie and Elizabeth Arden remind you of all the good things in autumn.

Which Daisy perfume is right for you?

Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume fragrance
Which one to choose? The Marc Jacob’s new Daisy ESF or stick to the original Daisy? Wow! Indeed a hard decision. Oh God, please give me several more such dilemmas. But seriously, as far as debates go, there’s no winner in this one. Both the versions are simply superb and you’ve just got to choose both. Let me extol their virtues so you get a better picture:

Marc Jacobs new Daisy perfume ESF is light and fresh and a spirited version of the original. It’s a mix of both floral and fruity fragrance. It reminds you of everything sunny and happy. The top notes of red grapefruit, pear, raspberry, wild rose, green leaves and warm plum is sensuous. And the middle notes of apple blossom, wild rose, violet, jasmine and lychee with base notes of musk, caramel, plum and cedar wood is feminine and edgy.marc jacobs daisy perfume fragrance
While the original Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume fragrance is all of the above, it has stronger notes of wild strawberry, violet and violet leaves, gardenia, jasmine, musk, vanilla, red grapefruit and white woods making it a sophisticated and seductive version. It’s an alluring perfume for both day and those special evenings. Created by Alberto Morillas in 2007, it’s absolutely devoted to the feminine woman who strives for simplicity.
While the original Daisy comes in a lovely bottle decorated with daisy flowers on the top, the newer Daisy ESF comes in a taller and slimmer version of the original rounded and feminine silhouette. The flamboyant gold cap with soft pink and white daisies has a small pop of neon yellow color hidden in the bunch of daisies. I think you can even buy the perfume for the bottle alone, it’s so pretty.
You can buy Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume fragrance along with eau de toilette, shower gel, body lotion and body butter. Use it along with body lotion for day long fragrance. For me, both Daisy’s are a must have!

How to pick the right organic eye cream

organic eye cream

So, when I decided to switch over from cosmetic to organic skin care products, I thought my woes of spending hours had ended. I can basically pick up any organic eye cream to combat issues like dark circles, wrinkles or even puffy eyes. But when I started reviewing these creams, I was amazed to know that there is an organic eye cream out there for nearly every different skin requirement.
Here are a few tips to help you pick the right eye cream:

  • Anti wrinkle eye creams- These creams are best suited for women who want to reduce wrinkles or fine lines around the eyes. Since the tissue in the eye area is very delicate, organic products work gently without damaging it.
  • Reducing puffiness- Long hours at work, staring at the computer screen, leads to severe puffiness in the eyes. Who has time for homemade remedies like putting tea bags or cucumber slices on them? Many serums and ointments reduce this puffiness, without any harsh chemicals.
  • Revitalizing creams- These all-in-one creams boost collagen synthesis. Apart from this they also help in firming the under eye area, getting rid of dark circles and reducing puffiness. The luxurious eye treatment is safe and healthy for the skin.
  • Dark circles- Eye creams that reduce dark circles contain revitalizing agents. Since dark circles can affect almost anyone, these creams can be used by women of all ages.
Apart from this, organic eye creams are available in forms of serums, ointments and even roll-ons. Then there are day and night eye creams also. So, pick something that suits your skin type and other specific requirements too!

Frame your eyes: Picking the right eyeglass frame

prada eyeglasses

Choosing the right pair of glasses is not about just looking for a functional pair but something that suits your face and personality. Like Prada eyeglasses that are comfortable yet fashionable and can be worn anywhere. Understand the face of your shape is key to choosing the right frame. Here are a few pointers on how to pick the right frame according to the shape of your face and eyes:

  • If you have a rectangle face with a strong jaw line and longish nose, big, square frames look good. A square frame can make a face look shorter and balance out the other features to look more balanced.
  • An oval-shaped face is easier to choose a frame for. The features are more balanced and frames that are wider than the widest part of the face defines the eyes and face. In fact, most frame designs will suit an oval face.
  • A square face generally has a well-defined jaw line and a broad forehead. Narrow frames can make your face look longer as they soften the angles of a square chin and face.
  • For a triangular or heart-shaped face with a broad forehead, the best frames are something that minimizes the width of the face at the top. Frames that are wide at the bottom like rounded or small square frames will highlight the features at the bottom of the face.
  • A round face with full cheeks and round chin can be balanced out with angular, narrow frame styles that make the face look narrower. Rectangular frames will look proportionate and add length to the face.
Don’t look at eyeglasses that only suit the shape of your face. Go with something that looks good with your hair color and skin tone. Knowing you look good can help boost your confidence levels sky high.

Ingredients that will get your skin smooth and soft for summer

glycolic acid body lotion

Today marks the official start of summer; this means less clothing and more skin. While the humidity in some parts of the world actually help with keeping skin hydrated, other dry regions are not so lucky. For those trying to flaunt their best-looking skin, it’s time to break out all the proper equipment. If you’re a product junkie like me, you are always on the look out for the next best thing; a product that will actually do all that it claims and something that you will want to stay loyal to. What I’ve found during my hunt for beauty products is that there are some ingredients that stand above the rest. Here are some great finds that feature these ingredients.

Your body restores and replenishes itself nightly, but it takes skin a full 28 days to renew itself. Speed up the process with a glycolic acid body lotion that will help slough off dead skin and hydrate it at the same time. What is glycolic acid exactly? Glycolic acid is the smallest alpha hydroxy acid and helps break down the substance that binds dead skin. This way, damaged skin can be shed easier, revealing smoother and younger-looking skin underneath. Look for a lotion that has at least 10% glycolic acid so that you can really see a difference after a month. With daily use, your skin should be working at it’s optimal level.
Another great exfoliating ingredient is retinol, which is a form of Vitamin A. This ingredient also promotes quick cell turnover but like any other vitamin, it degrades and oxidizes as soon as it hits oxygen. Make sure the packaging is air-tight and that it’s a quality product that stabilizes the vitamin for full benefits.

Gemstones and Vodka

Wondering why I’ve chosen this topic? Well, because I would love your opinion. :)
Yes, there are real gemstones in the vodka bottle. Diva Vodka is a wheat-based vodka that is triple distilled. The process of obtaining such an interesting type of alcohol is not as simple as it may seem.
gemstones vodka

To deserve having real gemstones included in the bottle, the vodka is filtered through Nordic birch charcoal and through crushed diamonds and gems like emeralds and rubies.
Being one of the most expensive drinks in the world (no wonder!), this vodka will run you anywhere from $70.00 up to $1,060,000!
diamond and gemstones vodka - diva vodka
The crystals are in a glass tube and can be used as a garnish. The 48 crystals in each bottle include cubic zircona, smoky topaz, pink tourmaline, amethyst, citrine and peridot. They are all handpicked and uniquely arranged.
So, I’m dazzled. I don’t know whether the gemstones come with the vodka or vodka comes with the gemstones. What do you think?

How to reduce your skin’s dark spots

dark spots corrector
Pimples and dark spots are big enemies of any woman. Women just hate these than any thing in the world. A single dark sport will spoil the entire look of the face. Wondering how to reduce or prevent dark spots? Well, not to worry. Here are a few simple tips which reduce dark spots and make your skin soft and healthy:
  • Dark spots are mainly caused due to the continuous exposure of skin to sun-rays. So always apply a good sunscreen lotion when ever you go out. This will protect your skin from harmful UV- rays and also acts as great nourishment and moisturizing agent. dark spots corrector

My three favorite perfumes for a night out

glow after dark perfume
Hundreds of enticing perfumes are available for evening wear but it may be difficult to pick just one out of the lot. If I had it my way, I would have a perfume wardrobe! I prefer to go with your personality and instinct when buying a perfume for that special evening out. Think of where you’re going out and select one accordingly. Check out three of my favorite perfumes that I reserve for those special night outs:

1. Glow After Dark perfume
glow afte dark perfumeGlow After Dark perfume by Jennifer Lopez is on top of the list when it comes to favorite perfumes. With top notes of mandarin, passion fruit and white cherry and middle notes of jasmine, rose and orange flower, Glow after Dark is aptly named. It’s a perfume that’s just right for a romantic evening out with someone special or if you want to party till the wee hours. With base notes of pink musk and patchouli in a curvaceous bottle, the perfume is bound to make you feel deliciously feminine.
2. Escada perfumes
I have to smell good when I go out, morning or evening. The Escada perfumes that I have are essentially evening perfumes that are a refined mix of Oriental spices, orange blossoms and vanilla. Top notes give more than a hint at coconut and peach and create an aura around you when you wear Escada in the evenings. There’s nothing subtle about some of the perfumes that have top notes of passion fruit, papaya and guava with hints of jasmine. There’s no way you can feel prim and proper with this perfume.
3. Shalimar
The origin of Shalimar by Guerlain is as legendary as the perfume. This iconic perfume has long been a best-seller and its charm lies in its citrus notes combined with lemon and bergamot, jasmine, vanilla, Peru balsam and Tonka bean that make it a perfect evening perfume. The mid-notes are distinctly floral and luxurious, to say the least. The composition has remained the same over the years, i.e. sensuous and rich and that’s what makes it a winner all the way through.
Test out various perfumes before settling for something that’s exactly you. Test them out on blotters and narrow down your choice. Then wear them for a few hours and see how it smells on your skin before buying it.

What makes Lancome fragrances a great gift

Lancome Tresor Gift set
The house of Lancome has been around for 75 years and are still going strong. Their fragrances have stood the test of time as celebrities down the years stand testimony to the fact. Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Anne Hathaway, Penelope Cruz, Victoria Beckham, Rene Zellweger and more recently Emma Watson among a host of others have endorsed the Lancome range of perfumes. If that’s not enough reason to use Lancome fragrances, check out other reasons why I would want to go with their perfumes:

  • Lancome has over 62 perfumes made by some of the best perfumers in the business. Apart from fragrances, the house of Lancome offers high-end skin care and makeup products that are sought after.
  • The founder of Lancome, Armand Petitjean’s aim has always been to spread French elegance around the world. And he’s succeeded beyond his dreams when you see supermodels, actresses and other personalities vying to endorse the brand.
  • When you think of gifts, Lancome Tresor gift set comes to mind immediately. It’s always been my choice of gift for loved ones. The sharp, Oriental perfume is a blend of lilac and apricot with lower notes of amber and musk. The light and feminine floral fragrance makes it an ideal daytime perfume.
  • Their other gift sets includes Tresor Love in Bloom collection (contains eau de parfum and perfumed body lotion) that comes luxuriously wrapped to make up that perfect gift and with a bonus rose ring in black. It’s a flirty and modern fragrance that has scents of ripe fruits, roses and jasmine and under notes of cedar wood and musk. “Tresor “Hearts” gift set is a blend of lilac and rose with muguet and the sparkle of apricot blossom.
Celebrity endorsements always add to a product’s allure. And since Lancome has always been consistent in keeping up with the quality of their perfumes, they’ve never looked back.
