Basically the houndstooth jacket is a statement jacket made from duotone textile patterns. It is also called the hounds-tooth, dogtooth or dog’s tooth. The major characteristics of the jacket are its broken checks or conceptual four-pointed shapes. Traditionally these would be in black and white, but in contemporary times, more vibrant colors are experimented with.
The classic pattern is a great example of tessellation. Originating in the Scottish Lowlands, these jackets were made from woven wool. Again, you can now find them in an array of other fabrics.
