Years ago, a shoulder was just a shoulder. It was the body part that modest girls would show off when showing off anything else was what got you labeled trashy (and at other times, “hot”). But ever since 2008 and again in 2011, the shoulder has become the one body part that everyone should show.
The popularity of the shoulder began in fall 2008, when many designers debuted shoulder-baring tops that had asymmetrical designs to remakes of classic halterneck design styles. In 2010, fashion’s spring 2011 looks featured plenty of shoulders from designers Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Calvin Klein, Lanvin and more.So how can you take advantage of this hot hot trend? Read ahead and find out the answer.
There are a couple of basic off-the-shoulder tops that any fashion-conscious person can use to take advantage of this trend.
Ruffle one shoulder top
Are you one of those girls who loves a bit of romanticism and whimsy in her wardrobe? Then a ruffle one shoulder top is the top for you. Ruffles are always fun to wear and have been worn in many different styles through the ages. The one shoulder tops available these days feature tops with a single ruffle, tiered ruffles and side ruffles. Ruffles, in general, add bulk to a garment; so if you already look heavy through the top of your body, make sure the ruffle placement is flattering to your figure before purchasing. You don’t want to look like a ruffled-mess do you?Cold shoulder tops
I don’t have the fashion vocabulary to properly describe this shirt but I can write one thing — cold shoulder tops are the hottest pick of the shoulder-baring trend. What is especially great about these tops is that they work for all body types. The cold shoulder top is a top that usually has both shoulders revealed and sometimes a slit that runs along the top of the arm sleeve. (Speaking of split sleeve, split sleeve tops are pretty awesome for showing off arms.) The cold shoulder top comes in many fabric styles, from plain jersey knit fabrics to more expensive fabrics like silk. And, the shirt also comes in many colors and styles, from plain colors to bold graphics.Take my hint and bare those shoulders for the spring and summer.
