Imagine yourself in that perfect evening gown, looking ethereal and feeling it too – won’t that one occasion do wonders to your self esteem! To turn this visualization into a reality, all you need to do is to get a gown that highlights your best features and hides your weak ones. I know what you’re thinking- that’s easier said than done! Here are some tips to help you choose a full length dress based on your body shape.
  • Alex Evenings jacket dressIf you have an hourglass figure, you are indeed blessed! Try the Alexander Evenings jacket dress with the rhinestone trim for a formal occasion or if you feel more daring, opt for the lemon yellow Sean Collection beaded mesh halter gown.
  • Have a pear shaped body? The challenge would be to camouflage your hips. Choose dresses that have an empire waist and detailing on the neckline, for instance the Adrianna Papell one shoulder shutter pleat gown.
  • For those with an athletic built, creating a feminine silhouette is the key. Opt for a gown that highlights your bust, cinches your waist and has a flared skirt. Avoid dresses that are figure hugging. Flaunt your best features namely your shapely legs, shoulders and arms with a halter neck or strapless dress that has a side slit, such as the Notte by Marchessa crisscross contrast gown or the Mignon halter sequin evening gown.
  • If you are full busted, opt for a gown that is form fitting and flatters your bust. Avoid ones that have a belt right under the chest.
  • For plus sized ladies, wear a monochrome dress that is not tight fitting. Look for ones that have detailing at the shoulders or neck so that the attention is drawn towards the face, for example the Tadashi Shoji plus size cap-sleeved cage gown.
When you choose an evening gown, remember that often clothes that do not look attractive on the rack may look fabulous when worn. So keep your mind open and be ready to try out different options so as to increase the chances of finding that perfect gown.
